Veri Peri is the 2022 Color of the Year
The Pantone Color of the Year for 2022 has been chosen! The most recognized color experts unveiled the swatch in December, announcing Very Peri as a dynamic periwinkle blue with a violet -red undertone. It represents the blending of the faithfulness and constancy of blue with the energy and excitement of red. This brand-new hue created by Pantone, encourages personal inventiveness and creativity! It also has universal properties so it will look great on everyone! This color will be showing up in accessories and clothing stores soon and you’ll want to add it to your wardrobe this year!

These world-renowned specialists have once again made history by creating a color that did not previously exist in the spectrum. On a Zoom video call talking about the Color of The Year, Executive Director Leatrice Eisman explained the reasoning behind the manufactured color noting “It was really important for us to come up with a new color, because we have a very new vision of the world now,” “The color symbolizes the future,”
This color will have a profound affect on international fashion and color trends. Very Peri will be highlighted in the top runway colors and forecasted seasonal color palettes. Designers will be incorporating it into their lines and people will be wearing it widespread.
VERI PERI MADE AN EARLY APPEARANCE IN SPRING/SUMMER 2022
Although Very Peri wasn’t officially introduced as Pantone’s Color of the year until mid- December, many designers were ahead of the curve. Variations of this shade were already making appearances in Fall/Winter 2021 and Spring/Summer 2022 collections. For its Fall 2021 collection, Spanish retailer Mango presented a suit in a similar violet bluish hue. For the Spring/Summer 2022 collections, Isabel Marant, Tom Ford, and Valentino all served bold looks in violets of varying shades. From celerity red carpets to Zendaya honoring Beyonce’s In Love moment at the VMA’s , Violets have been having a moment in Fashion, and are here to stay.

For a unique color combo, The Pantone Color Institute recommends pairing Very Peri with complimentary color pallets. For Inspiration, the Institute has created four complimentary color palettes to make your Very Peri pop.
Balancing Act, a palette consisting of Hawthorne Rose, Granite Green and Muted Clay invoke a feeling of liveliness. It’s a complementary palette of colors whose natural balance of warm and cool tones support and enhance one another.
Amusement Park, is a color story that was by far a favorite and featured the most on the Spring/Summer 2022 Runways. This joyous and whimsical palette presents irrepressible fun and spontaneity amplified by the carefree confidence and joyful attitude of Very Peri. Styling suggestions consist of pairing Very Peri with the harmonious hues such as Tawny Orange, Pink Flambe, Fushcia Pink, Paradise Pink, and Tourmaline Blue as bolder colors. You can also wear it with Iced Coffee and Cornsilk for a more laidback palette of hues.
RUNWAY INSPO : Isabel Marant
For the Parisian Designers Spring/ Summer 2022 collection, Isabel Marant presented different plays on violets of varying shades. Retro inspiration was definitely in full effect, with tye-died denim washed pieces composed of varying violets, distressed / tie died to make a monochromatic effect. The show/collection also feautered many pyschadelic nostalic inspired prints, with a ….. color pallete and lavender as the star of the show.
Like last year’s historic color duo, Pantone has taken inspiration for the shade from the current landscape of our transformative times to reflect the year ahead. With a purposeful meaning and thematic response to society, the selection represents a juxtaposition of thoughts congruent with now and the outlook on the present to come. It’s meant to symbolize transition and new possibilities.
RUNWAY INSPO : Alberta Feretti & Marques Alemeida
From flowy, drapey fabrics in loose silhouettes with strategically placed cutouts in the saturated tone to a layered tie dye matching set with frayed distressing details that offer a more casual vibe, this color works for all occasions from formal to street wear. Designs are using this color in a way that transcends all types of fashion showing how wearable the signature shade is.
RUNWAY INSPO : Tom Ford
The classic designer featured this color in his recent Ready To Wear Show that focused on a sportswear theme. There was plenty of vibrant and bright, bold colors including the interpretation of Very Peri shown in an interesting mix of fabrics and textures such as velvet, metallics and leather.

Valentino also had played with plenty of purple on their runway. A simple yet elegant dress showcases the impact of this new shade as a total look alongside of how it pairs perfectly with other colors as mentioned above. As Valentino illustrates, it looks great in tailored silhouettes as well as more relaxed styles.
